FIBER ART

Over the years of working with textiles, I have been intrigued by the idea of taking my small-scale hand-stitched projects to a bigger scale. I wanted to find a way to create pieces that were made of fiber and would be sculptural without the help of a supportive structure. After years of experimenting on a small scale I found my love for wool felt, which, when thick enough, can hold a shape really beautifully. Like all materials I work with, it is a natural product and ultimately biodegradable.
WEST WIND  |   Brightbound Showroom, Napa, CA
West Wind, 2023
Hand-dyed wool felt, cotton thread
102” w x 63” h x 4” d

“West Wind” is a wool felt wall sculpture that draws its inspiration from the crisp Pacific Ocean breezes and the sensory experience of standing along the beaches of Northern California’s Pacific coast.

Carefully hand-smocked patterns undulate across the piece in varying depths and sizes, echoing the dynamic and ever-shifting nature of these winds. This invites viewers to explore the interplay of light and shadow, creating a tactile and visual journey that aims to capture the essence of a real-world experience.

Using felted wool as her medium, Kelly aims to convey a sense of warmth, comfort, and nostalgia, evoking the feeling of being wrapped in a cozy embrace.
This roughly 8 ft x 5 ft hand-smocked and custom dyed felt piece evolved from an inspiring collaboration with Shawback Design and
is currently on view at their new
Brightbound showroom in Napa.

Please email to book an appointment with me here.   Available times are Tue, Wed, Thu at either 9:30am or 3pm.

JUST YOU AND ME  |  Napa Bookmine, Napa, CA
Just You and Me, 2023
Wool felt, cotton thread
6 ft h x 14 ft w x 3 in d

“Just You and Me” is a two-piece installation that pays tribute to the power of human connection and the beauty of shared experiences that can arise from it. Through intricate craftsmanship and tactile textures, the artwork embodies a heartfelt invitation to explore such unique bonds between individuals.

While the carefully chosen patterns represent the unique qualities and personalities of the individuals involved, using felted wool as my medium, I aim to convey a sense of warmth, comfort, and nostalgia, evoking the feeling of being wrapped in a cozy embrace.
As viewers engage with “Just You and Me”, I hope they are inspired to reflect on their own relationships and cherish the moments of togetherness that enrich their lives and the intimacy and joy that can be found in the simplest of interactions.

Ultimately, “Just You and Me” seeks to create a serene and contemplative space within this bustling bookstore, inviting visitors to pause and reflect, reminding us all of the importance of fostering genuine connections in an increasingly fast-paced and digitally-driven world, one stitch at a time.
You can find "Just You and Me" at our beautiful local bookstore Napa Bookmine.

UNDER THE SAME SUN   |  Wydown Hotel, St. Helena, CA
Under The Same Sun, 2023
Wool felt, cotton thread
28" h x 44" w x 3 in d

"Under The Same Sun" is a custom piece, designed in collaboration with local interior design firm Shawback Design. The goal was to create a piece that would respond to the carefully chosen interiors and colors of room and be in alignment with the hotel's vision for their tasteful and cozy rooms.
The choice to use felted wool as my medium was meant to add an additional layer of comfort that makes guests feel at home away from home.

If you want to see "Under The Sun" in person you might want to book a stay at
