West Wind, 2023
Hand-dyed wool felt, cotton thread 102” w x 63” h x 4” d “West Wind” is a wool felt wall sculpture that draws its inspiration from the crisp Pacific Ocean breezes and the sensory experience of standing along the beaches of Northern California’s Pacific coast. Carefully hand-smocked patterns undulate across the piece in varying depths and sizes, echoing the dynamic and ever-shifting nature of these winds. This invites viewers to explore the interplay of light and shadow, creating a tactile and visual journey that aims to capture the essence of a real-world experience. Using felted wool as her medium, Kelly aims to convey a sense of warmth, comfort, and nostalgia, evoking the feeling of being wrapped in a cozy embrace. |
